GHQG EventsThe GHQG holds a number of events for the public and our members including Annual Gathering, Sharing Day, a Spring Lecture, a Winter Virtual Lecture, two Member retreats and a biennial Quilt Show.

Annual Gathering
|
Each fall, one chapter of the GHQG hosts the Annual Gathering. After a short business meeting, this event continues with lectures by nationally-known quilters, designers and authors. Favors, vendors, boutiques, raffles and tag sales are frequently part of this event. Most years, the Annual Gathering is open to the public for a fee; the hosting chapter determines if space will permit opening it to the public, and also determines the fees of attending. It is always open to all GHQG members for a reduced price. Our last one was October 5, 2024, presented by Enfield Quilters. The speaker was Paula Nadelstern presenting “Symmetry and Surprise: The Kaleidoscope as Design Inspiration”

Quilt Show
|
The GHQG Quilt show is a biennial event. This banner gives information from our 2023 quilt show. Our next show will be in 2025. Pictures from the most recent and prior shows can be viewed in our Photo Gallery page.

This is the winner of the Viewer's Choice Award at the 2023 Quilt Show. 'In William's Garden' , quilt top by Barbara Menasian (pictured here) and quilted by Vicki Close . The New England Quilt Museum had it prominently displayed all summer and was shown in their advertising for their Summer Celebration exhibit. We are proud to have Greater Hartford Quilt Guild represented at this great museum in Lowell, Massachusetts.

Spring Lecture
|
Annually, GHQG presents a lecture by a well-known quilter for its members.
This lecture is free to all GHQG members In 2022 we heard "A conversation with Sarah Ann Smith". Sarah shared her passion to create and design textile art and unique surface patterns to fellow quilters. She presented her two lectures: "How Did She Do That" and "Inspiration in the Ordinary". She showed her quilts, explained her techniques, and showed how she uses her cell phone for composition inspiration. In 2024 Barbara Chojnacki from Six Gables Designs will be lecturing on using Other People's Materials. |
Sharing Day |
Sharing Day is an event where the GHQG chapters and independent members of GHQG gather to share ideas, accomplishments, and fellowship. Chapters provide short demonstrations and display their challenge results and charity work.

Retreats |
GHQG hosts two members-only 4-day retreats. They are held annually in May and December at the Incarnation Center in Ivoryton, Connecticut.
